Bold Horizons was established in 2015 in response to demand for navigation coaching as well as orienteering events. It is owned and managed by Barbara Hill.
What drives the team to get out of bed each day? We LOVE to help people grow into who they want to be and believe that being active in the outdoors can bring many benefits to all.
Whilst the destination is important, we also believe that how you get there matters. The decisions we make and the lessons we learn along the way are important. Our core values are:
Respect: Respect for all individuals (including their cultures and beliefs), laws, the environment, and stakeholder interests are central to all that we do.
Care: We place physical plus mental safety and welfare first. We appreciate that everyone’s goals and journey are different and welcome diversity. We listen but do not tolerate abusive, bullying or threatening behaviour.
Excellence: We strive for excellence and value thoughtful, creative, and innovative ideas to help us continually improve. High-quality teamwork and collaboration are always priorities.
Integrity: We are honest, open, ethical, and fair. People trust us to adhere to our word.
Courage: We are willing to experiment and take managed risks to meet a need. We are willing to try something new and embrace all learning as another step in the journey.
WHAT WE DO
Bold Horizons typically organises around 50 public events each year and another 50 private or school activities. Orienteering, trail running, tailor-made boutique, corporate and charity events all happen regularly. In addition, we conduct orienteering and navigation coaching for individuals, private groups, Scouts, and Guides as well as professional development sessions for teachers and instructors.
We regularly partner with charity organisations and are pleased to conduct occasional BOOST events where we donate 100% of all revenue raised to our chosen partner.
Barbara also consults to other organisations such as Orienteering Australia, Orienteering NSW, the NSW Dept of Education and individual schools on various activities. With experience and qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning, corporate finance and risk managament, sports marketing, personal training and coaching plus event management Barbara is well versed in outdoor recreation. Personally, Barbara has also competed at high levels in triathlon, orienteering, running and cycling and actively enjoys leading a fit and healthy outdoor life through a wide variety of sports and recreation herself.
