For students who love being outdoors, enjoy a challenge, want to sharpen their off‑track navigation skills, or are curious about future representative orienteering pathways, 2026 offers an incredible year of opportunity.
Like any sport, progress in orienteering comes with time, experience, and commitment. You may not feel “there” yet—but with consistency and persistence, improvement is absolutely within reach. Aim high and see where the journey takes you.
Below is an outline of how regular training and participation across a variety of events can open doors to new skills, new friendships, and new adventures.
Even if competition isn’t your focus, orienteering offers so much more: lifelong friendships, travel to amazing places, time immersed in nature, and practical skills that support success at school, university, work, and life’s future challenges.
A summary of suitable youth training and competition events for 2026 is included below.
We strongly recommend developing skills by taking up all the training opportunities available: Adventure Running Squad, Bold Horizons Forest Fundamentals sessions, school coaching, NSW Junior Development Camps and club training opportunities.
Regular participation in events will help to consolidate skills and build fitness too.
And by attending training and events regularly, you will be able to build friendships with other like-minded youth from across the state.
If you’d like more information, are unsure how to get started, or need help choosing the right class, feel free to email Barbara (barbara@boldhorizons.com.au) or chat with us at an event. Orienteering clubs are also very supportive and can help guide new members.
